An announcement regarding CBDC exploration was made in February 2022. In April 2022, the Bank of Uganda held meetings with the temtum group, a blockchain technology company. In a May 2022 interview, the Bank of Uganda announced that it is conducting a preliminary study to consider a CBDC and the policy objectives that it would address.
