A group consisting of the Bank of Canada, the Bank of England, the Bank of Japan, the European Central Bank, the Sveriges Riksbank, the Swiss National Bank, and the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) has been formed to collaborate and exchange experiences regarding the potential implementation of central bank digital currency (CBDC) in their respective countries. The group’s main focus will be on evaluating different use cases for CBDC, as well as considering economic, functional, and technical design choices, including interoperability across borders. Additionally, the group aims to share knowledge on emerging technologies and will work closely with relevant institutions such as the Financial Stability Board and the Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructures (CPMI). The co-chairs of the group are Benoît CÅ“uré from the BIS Innovation Hub and Jon Cunliffe from the Bank of England, and it will include senior representatives from the participating institutions.
