In Zimbabwe’s February 2022 Monetary policy statement, the Central Bank announced that it is currently exploring the feasibility of rolling out a CBDC. In November 2022, the Zimbabwean central bank conducted a CBDC consumer survey to access opinions on the design and nature of a potential CBDC. In April 2023, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe announced that they plan to introduce a gold-backed digital currency to serve as legal tender in the country.
